Excellent service has never been in higher demand, but at the same time, most restaurants don't offer professional training to their staff because the insanely high turnover rates in our industry (120%+) make training too expensive these days. It costs a restaurant owner roughly $8,000 to recruit and train a new employee to be productive and successful. However, the average length of employment at restaurants is 110 days, or just over 3 months. Based on that, from a financial standpoint, it doesn't make sense for owners/managers to invest in training their employees only to watch them leave shortly after. So, nowadays, most restaurants hire servers, don't really train them, and hope for the best. Not really a recipe for success, is it?
